1994 Porsche 968 Clubsport

UK Supplied RHD C16 Car - 41,500 Miles - Wonderful Service History

The 968 Clubsport was instantly recognized as a proper driver’s car on its introduction to the world, and very much remains so today. In 1993 Performance Car named it their Car of the Year, whilst Autocar named it their Best Handling Car of the Year. Whilst the car only produces some 240bhp through its naturally aspirated three litre, four cylinder engine, having a curb weight of just 1300kg, with near perfect weight distribution and wonderful manual gearbox resulted in a very impressive and rewarding driving machine.

The Club Sport strips away all the fripperies, builds on the best bits, amplifies the soul and delivers more pure driving pleasure than almost any car was can think of
— Performance Car, December 1993

Porsche’s attitude with special edition lightweight cars never used to be as it is now. Back in the 90’s a car with less options and stripped back cost you less money. This no frills approach brought you a car with less weight and more optimised handling. In 1992 Porsche release the 968 Clubsport was born, a car more focused on performance and handling on the track that that standard road-orientated car. Whilst no more power was on offer, the car went on a strict diet. Gone was much of the sound deadening, lightweight Recaro bucket seats replaced the heavy electrically-adjustable leather buckets. Electric windows were replaced with hand winders, rear seats were removed and replaced with a parcel shelf and they didn’t stop there! A lighter wiring loom was used, the rear windows wiper was removed and they ever removed the rear boot lock! The result was diet of some 100kg For handling the car was lowered some 20mm, revised suspension and dampening and new 17-inch alloy wheels fitted.

This car, A968 POR, was supplied new by Lancaster Bow Porsche and was first registered on 24th June 1994, making it one of the 179 UK Supplied ‘C16’ Cars. This is a stunning car finished in Black with red script, with factory correct silver wheels. With weight saving top of Porsche’s agenda, this car has ordered in true lightweight spec with Recaro Seats, Manual Windows and door mirrors, three spoke non-airbag steering wheel and rear window wiper delete. The car features a removable sunroof.

On the outside, the car is in great condition with lovely paintwork. The unmarked ‘Cup 2’ wheels are in great condition and look great in the contrast silver finish, something that was only available on the Black cars, all other cars had wheels finished in the body colour. The red decals are in great shape and are unmarked.

The interior of the car presents very well indeed, as can be expected with a car that has covered just over 40,000 miles. The colour coded black bucket seats are unmarked with minimal wear to the bolsters and the interior carpets are in great condition. Peeling back the carpet in the boot, reveals the unused spare wheel and toolkit and it’s immaculately clean.

Under the bonnet, the engine bay, much like the rest of the car is perfect and in very clean condition with all factory stickers still in place.

This car has the most wonderful comprehensive history, with the majority at the hands of official Porsche Centres, with 17 stamps in the service book and a file full of invoices and MOTs. The last service coming from Porsche Centre Swindon with less than 200 miles covered since. The car has fully documented ownership with some very fastidious owners, which although is now at 7, three of these have been with dealers and one for only a very short term. The reality is that is has been serviced with some very small intervals.

The lovely self-explanatory number plate, A968 POR which was purchased by the third owner for a grand sum of £3,999, stays with the car.

With trans-axle Porsche’s on the rise, and with the 968 CS representing Stuttgart’s finest effort, this car is surely one of the best offerings in the marketplace, as a UK-Supplied RHD car with low mileage and fantastic service history.
