This 1957 Mercedes-Benz 190SL finished in its stunning original colour scheme of 050 White with 955 Grey Leather, according to the MB Classic Centre certificate, is a California car from new until 2017, with the last long term owner looking after the car for over 30 years. He was a major player in the local 190SL Owners Club, hosting the annual concours in 2004 and needless to say, he looked after his own car very well!

The California climate is incredibly kind to the cars, with rust simply not an issue! As one might expect, the bodywork of the car is sensational, it retains all its original panels and some lovely factory details that simply get lost over time. This car has never been restored, but was subject to an exceptional cosmetic facelift in 2001 at huge expense. As one might expect, with all the original panels, the car has perfect panel gaps, and looks just as it left the factory over 60 years ago. Today the paintwork is still in excellent condition. The chrome was also refinished at the same time and fits and looks lovely. All the lights, lenses and seals are in great condition.

The interior of the car was retrimmed in 2001, with the correct texture leather used on the seats, door cards and dashboard. The workmanship was of the highest quality, and they present in fantastic condition today. All correct details, such as the stitching on the door cards and around the gauges are perfect. The car has the correct Blaupunkt Stereo, with the correct Hirschmann ‘red-tip’ Aerial. The carpets are the correct two-tone square-loop carpets which fit beautifully and are unmarked. The car still has its very rare (and working!) Kienzle mechanical glove box clock. The ivory steering wheel and gear knob are in great condition.

Under the bonnet the car is again correct and detailed with great original features including factory spot welds around the front wings. It has its original ‘matching numbers’ engine, fitted with the correct and rare Solex Carburetors, which run perfectly. The car has its original chassis and body numbers clearly visible on the bulkhead with the original stamped ID plates. The car has now covered just over 80,000 miles and runs beautifully.

The black soft top fits very well and is in great condition, and is covered when down by a hood cover in matching grey leather. The car was supplied new with a small window hardtop, which together with the hubcaps were originally finished in contrasting DB040 Black. When the car was repainted they were both refinished in White to match the body, which perhaps suits the car better.

Last sold by us nearly five years ago, the car has only covered some 500 miles. However it has covered everything from motorways to rush hour in London, and it has performed flawlessly!

It represents a very rare opportunity to purchase an incredibly original 190SL, that drives as well as it looks. It comes with its original factory hardtop, data card, Heritage Certificate and a file of receipts from the restoration totalling over $50,000 and also a huge box of classic Mercedes-Benz literature.
