This 280SL was first registered on the 29th of September 1969, comes in the most desirable specification of automatic gearbox with power steering, the car is also fitted with tinted glass and roof rails on the hardtop. This car has been sold twice by ourselves, and was sold to the last owner in 1997. He has used the car sparingly having done 19,000 miles in the past 21 years.
The car in finished in Silver with good quality paint, with the colour changed during its last restoration from MB 906 Silver-Blue, which itself is one of Mercedes’ finer colours! The bodywork of the car is in generally good condition, although it could with tidying in places. The exterior chromework is also generally in good condition.
The interior of the car is Blue, the majority of the it being the original MB-Tex which is still in great condition. The seats have been retrimmed in Navy Leather and have aged nicely since. The seats are fitted with inertia reel seatbelts. The car has been fitted with a sideways facing 3rd seat, although the original trim panels come with the car, so you could remove if wanted. The interior wood is original and presents well. The interior chromework is generally in good condition.
The car is matching numbers, has covered approx 116,000 miles with an engine rebuild 32,000 miles ago. The car is in good mechanical condition, it runs and drives well, and we’ve covered some 150 miles recently.
The car has a great history file, with numerous invoices for work carried out and MOT’s going back to 1983. The car has its original book pack, including its original service book showing its very early service history. It also has the original Data Card, its tool kit and original spare wheel cover.
It represents a great restoration project being a 280SL with an automatic gearbox, in a great colour scheme and is importantly matching numbers. The car can easily be used as-is with some minor work, but would benefit from a restoration in the coming years. It’s now a great entry point to Pagoda ownership!
