First registered in the penultimate year of the R107, this 1988 300SL is a rare left hand drive low mileage example showing just  72,000kms or 45,000 miles. Finished in Midnight Blue (904) with Mushroom Leather trim, it includes a very high specification including, all important Climate Control (Air Conditioning) and heated seats. It also features optional Rear Seats, Cruise Control, Tinted Glass, outside temperature gauge, headlamp wash-wipe, central arm rest and illuminated vanity mirrors. As is often the case with blue cars, it is fitted with a rather more interesting Navy soft top.

Supplied new in Germany on the 8th April 1988, it was then invoiced to Florida resident Mr Donald Lemin on the 29th October 1988 who then moved to Europe and took up residence in Nice, France. The service records show that the car was regularly serviced at Mercedes-Benz France in Nice and also in Monaco during this time.

In April 1999, and having covered 58,708 kilometres, Mr Lemin had the car collected by Mercedes Benz France in Nice and then proceeded to spend over 25,000 Euros (over 22,500 UK pounds today!) A huge 7 page invoice detailing the works is in the history file and makes great reading.

For the next 10 years the car was little used and covered only 3,800 kms (2400 miles).History does not tell us about Mr Lemin’s whereabouts, but it is believed he passed away in France and the car was subsequently put into storage in Nice. The car was next registered to Miss Brigitte Longueville in Nice on 12th March 2008 who appears to have sold the car the same day to Auto Gallery in Bordeaux.

Auto Gallery then sold the car on 27th June 2009 to a gentleman in Chelsea who kept the car at his house in the South of France. There is an in-depth inspection report on file with photographs showing it had now done 62,635 kms. Over the next 10 years the car was again little used and French Controle Technique (MOT) certificates show the mileage rising gently to 71,448 kms in July 2019. Indeed the last certificate is still valid until July 2021.

Last year the car came over to the UK and was serviced and Air Conditioning recharged by Belgravia Garages. Over the Covid lockdown the owner has decided to relinquish his French residence and this car has therefore come to the market. Other recent work includes a complete brake overhaul with new discs and calipers, also a new water pump and belts have been fitted.

This rare, predominantly two owner, car is accompanied by the original book pack and service book, rather charming history file which contains the old purchase invoices, data cards and some old French Controle Technique certificates. It has its original tool kit and unopened first aid kit.
